The three things I remember about Florence is the Duomo (their MASSIVE cathedral), the Ponte Vecchio and finally getting to see Michelangelo's David. I'll start with David because I don't have any pictures - they wouldn't let you take any. We had to go to the Galeria dell'Academia on our own to see the David and it was well worth the effort to get there. I can't express just how magnificent the statue is. Any photograph you've seen is a poor, poor substitute for the real thing. I sat on the floor for about 20-25 minutes and just looked at him. It was almost a spiritual experience - I've never said that before in my life.
Next was the Duomo, another incredibly huge cathedral. The outside is covered in white, green and pink marble with beautiful details just about everywhere you look.
These would be the front doors. Yowza!
I think this is supposed to be Daedalus. I just liked him so I took his picture.
This is the side of the Duomo. Gorgeous!
This is a shot of the Ponte Vecchio. It looks like a street but it's a bridge with buildings build along the sides. It's one of those tourist spots that every seems to visit. As far as I could tell, every single one is a very expensive jewelry store. No jewelry for me!
Dealing with the aftermath of my stupid email was much less painful than I thought it would be. It will be a long time before I fire off an email without thinking it through first. I'd like to say it'll never happen again but at some point I'll get complacent and will inevitably do something boneheaded. Gah! Sometimes I need a keeper!
You know I watched a documentary on David from how he was created to how his statue was treated badly through the years and that its lucky to be still around today! To think a masterpiece was almost rubble - sad :(
