I think I may have offended some people with yesterday's post and for that, I apologize. I was stream-of-consciousness typing and I was not as clear as I could have been. When I said humans were meant to eat meat, I only meant that the human body evolved over time to eat meat as well as vegetables. If you compare our teeth to other omnivorous animals, you will find they are very similar: front teeth for the tearing of meat, back teeth for the grinding of vegetation. Also, our bodies most easily get the nutrients they need from a combination of both meat and vegetables. You can get the same nutrition from a vegetarian diet but you need to plan better and eat combination foods. For example, the most efficient source of iron is red meat. Iron-rich leafy greens and beans, however, must be eaten with a source of vitamin C or the iron cannot be absorbed. If you only have half of the combination, the iron is useless. Now that said, the combination of iron-rich vegetation and vitamin C often yields more usable iron than meat alone. Saying that the human body gets what it needs most easily from an omnivorous diet is not me making a judgement, simply stating a fact. But... eating meat today to stay healthy is no longer necessary with the availability of vitamin supplements and grocery stores offering fruits and veggies year round. A few hundred years ago when there were little or no fresh vegetables in the dead of winter, combination diets would have been a problem. Am I making any sense at all or am I just digging the hole I'm standing in deeper and deeper? Honestly, I'm not trying to be offensive. Personally, I make no judgements on what people eat, who they sleep with, or who or what they choose to worship. If it works for you, more power to you. For myself, I want a good free-range hamburger with lettuce, tomato, mustard and pickles... on the other hand, I have a great recipe for black bean burgers with spicy peach ketchup and I'll happily make then if you come to visit me.
Thank goodness you posted this because I have something to tell you....I worship Cartman!!!!
I know, I can't help it. He's such a sick little bastard.
Silly goose - I can only speak for myself, but you didn't offend me in the least! And you can make me a black bean burger anyday! :o)

See, this is why education rocks! You informed yourself of LOTS of info about food, and made a decision to suit you. I wish everyone would join you and I in doing that :)
