This is where we spent our crafting weekend. My parents' cottage in northern Michigan. I was finally able to reveal my challenge quilt:
I got good reviews from my family which was nice. By mutual consent, my sister and I agreed this will be our first and last challenge quilt. We didn't seem to have as much fun doing our separate quilts (her's isn't finished yet) as we thought we would. It was a good experience but once was enough.
My project for our crafting weekend was to quilt my purple and green quilt. Naturally, my terrible photography didn't pick up most of my quilting lines:
My birthday, which was Saturday, was great. My sister gave me 9 or 10 yards of Kona white, my favorite fabric for quilting. The white borders in the quilt above are Kona white. My mom bought me my favorite kind of cake from Gooddale's Bakery in Grayling. I haven't had one of Gooddale's great birthday cakes in probably 30 years. Yummy!
Each of my sisters had their own projects to work on. One worked on a new quilt while the other one finished some gorgeous specimen boxes she'd been working on for a while. This one is my favorite:
Who knew there was such an amazing and beautiful variety of sea urchins. I just love this one!
The same goes for sand dollars. Beautiful!
I FINALLY finished sewing down the border on this quilt. It languished as a UFO for weeks while I found other, more fun things to do. I just love how this turned out.
This is my mom. (She's probably going to kill me for posting this picture. Sorry, Mom!) She paints beautiful china pieces. My sister's and I were mock fighting over a plate of poppies she's painting. We all love poppies. Mom's been painting for years and just gets better and better.
I had a great time this weekend. We agreed we'd like to do more than one craft weekend a year although finding the time will be tough. Spending my birthday with my family was wonderful. My little brother and his family were at their cottage next door and my 7 and 9 year-old nephews came by often to visit. It was a great weekend!
Glad you had a great birthday! (I'm currently enjoying mine, as well!)
Love all your quilts - especially the purple and green one, which makes me smile. (My two favorite colors, so naturally I'd feel the strongest attraction to that one.)
And I had no idea there were so many kinds of sea urchins...
